With every piece of clothing, you definitely want to have a level of uniqueness to it but that goes so much, that it actually isn't as important as much as you think it is unless you are all about that fashion-life. When it comes to winter clothing and especially boots design is not going to be on the forefront as much as you think. Function overrules fashion here as the user needs to be protected more than ever thus the need for the right type of materials is important along with comfort. To make things easier here are some tips on how to find the ones that fit you without making any compromise.
Insulation
The first thing you need to look for in regards to the level of protection is the type of insulation a boot has. Neoprene is quite the usual suspect here as it is a very promising material that most men's winter snow boots are made from. To be honest this is not the best material out there but it will keep your feet warm in moderate climates and unlike synthetic fibre, your boots won't become looser over time.

For a better insulation and a pair that won't feel too tight, synthetic fibre is your best bet as it is blended into the lining of the boots and it gives a cozy and soft feeling. Despite all these advantages, synthetic fibre can loosen up over time simply because of the way it is embedded in the boot.
Lacing
There are two types of lacing systems when it comes to men's winter snow boots or any in that matter. The first type of lacing system comes with many eyelets that provide a very comfortable fit but do not keep the top of the foot very tight - they are easy to tighten by just pulling once. On the other hand, we have the same system with added lacing hooks which allow you to regulate the level of tightness around the ankles. While the latter gives you a more customizable fit, it is not as quick as the former system.

Traction
In regards to your safety staying with both of your feet on the ground seems like a simple rule to follow, but not when your boots are slipper. To make sure you stay in that position the traction of your boots needs to be at a solid level, which means that you will need ones that have lugs with specks, on their soles. This is called an Arctic Grip technology which makes the boots grip on wet and icy surfaces, but similar lugs will do too.
Water Resistance & Breathability
I know these two things are quite contradictory to each other but believe me, with today's technological advancements there are boots out there that offer both. Water resistance is achieved with materials like rubber, neoprene, treated leather and breathability is achieved usually by combining leather and nylon together. If you want to avoid leaving out one feature over the other I would suggest you get boots with Gore-Tex as they are both water resistant and very breathable.
